NETWORK RAIL COTTONS CENTRE

Project Overview

Network Rail wished to consolidate its Route and Infrastructure Project teams from a number of locations across London and Croydon into a new location near to its main hub at London Bridge.

The objective of this exercise was to bring together these dispersed business areas for the first time within a modern, high performing workplace environment.  Key to the success of the project was the development of a workplace strategy, design and change management solution that enabled teams to work collaboratively in the delivery of day to day operational activities and major project investment programmes.

Our Approach

The development of the workplace strategy and design solution required our team to undertake an in-depth analysis of the business operations, organisation structure, governance and ways of working across numerous sites and specialist functional areas.

We worked closely with the Client Sponsor, Route Executives and operational teams through a series of in-depth engagement activities in order to develop an operational Statement of Requirements enabling the future workplace concept to be developed.

Output

Throughout the entire design process we engaged with business user groups, co-designing the environment considering workforce agility, operational adjacencies, culture, wellbeing, brand and identity.  We delivered a detailed operational statement of requirements, a detail design for their new workplace and managed a thorough change and relocation management process throughout.

The project was delivered within a highly controlled programme environment in order to maintain business continuity and operational excellence across the route at all times.

Benefits

Due the depth of engagement we were able to articulate the specialist requirements of the route and technical infrastructure teams creating a workplace that reflected their specific needs, delivering greater integration across the once dispersed business activities.

Of significant benefit to Network Rail was the management of change and transition services which ensured that the business was ready for the new workplace and that the facility was fully operational on Day 1.
